The Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov met today with the Director of the “Marin Drinov” Center for Bulgarian Studies at the University of Kharkiv Dr. Vladimir Salenkov. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Mikhail Stanchev, a former lecturer in Kharkiv, who since the beginning of the hostilities in Ukraine is part of the Ukrainian scholars whom BAS has offered to continue their academic research in our country.
“In Kharkiv, we are proud that our city is the birthplace of Prof. Marin Drinov”, Dr. Salenkov said during the conversation. He introduced Prof. Moutafov with the idea to erect a monument to the prominent Bulgarian scientist and first president of the Bulgarian Learned Society in Kharkiv.
Portraits of two presidents of BAS, painted by Ukrainian artist Viktor Kovtun, are donated to the Academy by the “Marin Drinov” Centre for Bulgarian Studies at the University of Kharkiv. The portraits are of Acad. Stefan Vodenicharov (1944 – 2020), President of BAS 2012 – 2016, and of Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, President of BAS 2017 – 2024. The Vice-President of BAS Prof. Moutafov expressed gratitude for the donation made on behalf of the leadership of the Academy, and stressed that he insisted on the good interaction between Ukrainian and Bulgarian scientists recalling that BAS had a special program for financial support for the publication of books intended for the diaspora.
