At a special ceremony held on April 23, 2025 at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Bulgarian National Science Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science awarded diplomas for the most successful projects reported in 2024.

Of the 22 awarded projects, 13 are by scientists from BAS. Two projects were awarded for each of the scientific fields, and their leaders were honoured with diplomas.

For a project within international cooperation – contracts for national co-funding of COST Actions and bilateral agreements, a diploma was awarded to Prof. DSc. Margarita Popova from the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry – BAS. A diploma for an excellent project in the field of bilateral cooperation was also awarded to Assoc. Prof. Radan Ivanov from the Institute of Mechanics – BAS.

In the field of “Biological Sciences”, awards were received by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rostislav Bekchiev from the National Museum of Natural History – BAS and by Sen. Asst. Prof. Boyan Zlatkov from the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research – BAS.

In the scientific field “Mathematical Sciences and Informatics,” Acad. Krassimir Atanassov, originally leader of a project at the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering and Prof. DSc Eugenia Stoimenova from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics – BAS also received diplomas.

Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Antonov from the Geological Institute – BAS was awarded in the scientific field “Technical Sciences”. In the field of “Earth Sciences”, diploma was awarded to Assoc. Prof. Nikolay Dimitrov from the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography – BAS.

In the field of “Social Sciences”, Sen. Asst. Prof. Sonya Georgieva from the Economic Research Institute – BAS was honored.

The scientific field “Agricultural Sciences” was represented by Assoc. Prof. Desislava Todorova from the Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics – BAS and Prof. Milka Mileva from the Institute of Microbiology – BAS.

Diploma in the scientific field “Physical Sciences” was awarded to Sen. Asst. Prof. Yanko Nikolov from the Institute of Astronomy with NAO – BAS.

In the scientific field “Chemical sciences”, awards were presented to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atanas Kurutos from the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Center of Phytochemistry – BAS and Corr. Memb. Krassimir Danov from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
