The joint initiative of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Music, MUSICORUM VIA, has started with a concert entitled “Masterpieces of Opera and Operetta Classics. Two Academies – One Stage”. The event took place on 7 April at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall with the participation of students from the Vocal Faculty of the “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National Academy of Music. Arias and ensembles from works by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Offenbach, Kalman, Lehar were performed.
The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva welcomed the participants and the audience of MUSICORUM VIA. “I would like to thank the young musicians for sharing their talent with us. I am glad that the historical hall of the Academy will become a lively place, open to all citizens of Sofia,” Corr. Memb. Slavcheva said in her speech.
The concerts of the “MUSICORUM VIA. Two Academies – One Stage” initiative were presented at a press conference by the leaderships of both institutions. In the presence of journalists, the President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva and the Rector of NAM Prof. Sava Dimitrov signed an annex to the framework agreement between the academies. For the concerts of the young talents in the historical hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the NAM is providing a “Yamaha C7” concert grand piano.
“BAS will become a second home for the musicians of the NAM; not only our students but also PhD students and lecturers will perform here,” the Rector Prof. Dimitrov also said before the media.
“The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has had a serious presence of musicians and musicologists since 1948,” the Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov said, adding that even today the Academy is home to prominent musicians and music theorists such as academicians Vassil Kazandjiev and Plamen Kartalov. The Deputy Rector of NAM Prof. Borislava Taneva presented the upcoming concerts of MUSICORUM VIA. The next concert, to be held on 14 April, will be dedicated to the work of Bulgarian composers and will present prize winners from national and international competitions. On 28 April, the concert will feature works by French composers, and in May, concerts by doctoral students from the National Academy of Music are scheduled.
