The Vice-President of BAS, Prof. DSc Shtelian D. Shterionov participated today in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Viticulture and Horticulture of the Agricultural University of Plovdiv and the ritual vine pruning on the occasion of Trifon Zarezan (Trifon the Pruner) holiday. The event was held at the university’s training base in Brestnik.

The rector, Assoc. Prof. Boryana Ivanova, opened the celebration which was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, local authorities and the academic community.

Prof. Shterionov congratulated the management and students of the Agricultural University on behalf of the President of BAS – Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva. In his speech, he emphasized that for decades the Faculty of Viticulture and Horticulture had established itself as the leading national educational and scientific institution in the field of agricultural sciences. “A pleiad of professors have trained generations of specialists whose professionalism and devotion have become the foundation of Bulgarian agriculture. Their achievements are a guarantee of its worldwide recognition and a source of pride for all of us. Combining this celebration with St. Trifon’s Day testifies to the connection the institution has with the centuries-old Bulgarian traditions”, the Vice-President of BAS said in his address.
