The role of the academies of sciences in improving the cooperation between the countries of the Black Sea region was discussed at a meeting today at BAS by the President of the Academy, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva and Acad. Asaf Hajiyev – Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC). The possibility for the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences to host a meeting of the academies to be held in 2026 in Bulgaria was the focus of the conversation. The meeting was attended by PABSEC Vice-President in charge of Financial Matters Petar Kanev and Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS and President of the Academy (2016 – 2024) who had been elected PABSEC Special Representative to international organizations working in the field of science and education.

Acad. Asaf Hajiyev is a member of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences and a recipient of the Honorary Medal of the President of BAS. At the meeting today, he congratulated Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva on her election as President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and expressed confidence that the good cooperation would continue.
