The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has awarded corresponding member Peter Boyvalenkov with the “Marin Drinov” honorary medal on a ribbon. The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, presented the award at a ceremony held today at BAS. The Honorary Medal is awarded to Prof. Boyvalenkov for his contribution within his scientific, scientific-organizational and expert activities.

Corr. Memb. Peter Boyvalenkov, DSc, is the Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS. He is one of the most respected, in Bulgaria and abroad, representatives of the Bulgarian school of coding theory, author of 117 scientific publications. Corr. Memb. Boyvalenkov is one of the most active participants in the preparation of the national team for the International Mathematical Olympiad. He is Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians.

The President of BAS Prof. Revalski pointed out that the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics was the only one in the field of classical mathematical sciences and thanked Corr. Memb. Boyvalenkov for continuing the tradition of the founders. He emphasized his undoubted qualities as a mathematician as well as his work towards stimulating quality research. During the ceremony, Corr. Memb. Peter Boyvalenkov thanked the Governing Council of BAS and the Institute’s management for the award. I accept it as a recognition for the institute, he said.

This year the Assembly of Academicians has highly appreciated his scientific research, scientific-administrative, teaching and expert activities and has elected him a corresponding member of BAS.

The ceremony was attended by the Vice-President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evdokia Pasheva, the Scientific Secretary-General Prof. Neli Koseva and representatives of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics.
