The Ministry of Transport and Communications supports the implementation of the project proposed by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for naming Sofia Airport after the brightest historical figure for Bulgaria, Vasil Levski. This has become clear during the meeting held by the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, and the Minister of Transport and Communications Krasimira Stoyanova today at the Academy.
Minister Stoyanova handed to Prof. Revalski the positive opinion of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and informed him about the necessary concrete actions for the naming of Sofia Airport. Sofia Municipality has also given a positive opinion, Prof. Revalski said.
In order to issue a presidential decree naming the airport – a site of national importance, a positive opinion from the Ministry of Transport and Communications is required. The President of BAS is to brief the President on the documents received.
In October, at the invitation of Minister Krasimira Stoyanova, BAS corresponding members Atanasov Semov and Stefan Hadjitodorov held a meeting to present the idea. In 2017, the proposal to name the airport after the Apostle of Freedom was made by BAS scientists and received wide support.
