At a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of BAS held on 20.11.2024, Minister Galin Tsokov honoured Prof. Julian Revalski with a Plaquette of the Ministry of Education and Science for his overall activity as the President of BAS in two consecutive terms and for the joint work between the two institutions. The plaquette has been made by Bulgarian students from the “Velizar Peev” Vocational High School in Svoge and depicts the Bulgarian alphabet.

What sets you apart is your leadership towards the people. In all the conversations we have had, even when we have argued, I have been impressed by your position that researchers and people working at BAS should have better working conditions, including higher salaries, Minister Tsokov said.

Your success during these years and what distinguishes you is that you are a leader who relies and holds on people and takes a human approach to everyone you work with, added Prof. Galin Tsokov.

The report on the management of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for the period from 2016 to 2024 was also presented by Prof. Revalski to the members of the Board of Trustees.

He highlighted the three most important achievements during his management, namely the restoration and strengthening of the Academy’s prestige before society and institutions, the increase and sustainability of the quality of scientific production and patents as well as the tripling of the BAS budget and the 5-fold increase in starting salaries for the BAS academic staff.

Prof. Revalski said that invaluable help in his activities over the years was provided by good interaction and dialogue with the Council of Ministers whose meetings he attended, the Ministers of Education and Science and their teams, a number of ministries that had joint activities with BAS, with the Presidential Administration, the National Assembly and with the Education and Science Committee in particular, employers’ and scientific organizations, and universities.

An institutional gesture to the President of BAS was also made by Mr. Dobri Mitrev, Chairman of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Industrial Association who presented a jubilee badge “30 years of BIA”, as well as by Ms. Silvia Georgieva, Executive Director of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria, who presented a picture as a token of gratitude for the joint work and support of the Board of the Association and all Bulgarian municipalities.

Prof. Revalski wished the next President of the Academy, whose election will take place on 2 December this year, to continue and develop the projects and initiatives already started, thanking the members of the Board for the excellent cooperation during his management, for their support and commitment which he would continue to encourage as a member of the Board of Trustees.
