On the Day of the National Enlighteners at a ceremony at the “St. Cyril and Methodius” National Library, the “Follower of the National Enlighteners” prizes were awarded. Prominent scientists and artists were awarded by the Union of National Community Centers on whose idea the initiative was implemented.
The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, was awarded by the President of the Union Prof. Nikolay Doynov. The award is given for outstanding contribution to upholding the heights of the Bulgarian spirit and the ideals of the national enlighteners. This is an award for the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, said Prof. Revalski and noted that this year the Academy was celebrating 155 years since its foundation. He stressed the close relationship over the years between the community centers and BAS and recalled that the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is the successor of the Bulgarian Learned Society – one of the peak events of the Bulgarian Revival along with the establishment of the first Bulgarian community center in Svishtov.
At the ceremony, the award “Follower of the National Enlighteners” was given to the corresponding members of BAS Vezhdi Rashidov and Atanas Semov. Greetings were given by the Director of the National Library, Prof. Krasimira Aleksandrova, and the Deputy Minister of Culture, Mr. Kalin Veliov.
