The exhibition “The Literary Heritage in the Library of the Bulgarian Exarchate in Istanbul” has been opened today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The exposition presents the activities of the Central Library of BAS in the period September 2024-September 2025 under the “Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Studies Abroad” NSP.

The exhibition was opened by the Director of the Central Library of BAS, Dr. Silviya Naydenova, who noted that thanks to an agreement between the library and the Bulgarian Exarchate in Istanbul, an inventory of the books in the Exarchate library had been made. The collection of books available to the Bulgarian Exarchate in Istanbul is remarkable and rich, said Dr. Silviya Naydenova, adding that the oldest book found by the researchers dated back to 1858.

The cataloguing of the collection of books and the digitization of the church archives in the Bulgarian Exarchate will be of help to contemporary and future specialists who will have the necessary conditions and starting point to carry out their research fully. For the first time, the library collection has been completely processed and arranged.  The 15 posters present the most valuable publications in the collection. In this way, a part of our written cultural heritage preserved abroad is presented to the general public.

During the opening of the exhibition, a congratulatory address was read out by the Minister of Culture, Nayden Todorov. The event was attended by the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, the Vice-President Corr. Memb. Evdokia Pasheva, the Scientific Secretary Assoc. Prof. Elka Traykova, as well as representatives of the Bulgarian Exarchate in Istanbul, the Bulgarian community in the city.
