The project BG-RRP-2.011-0005-C01 “Design of Innovative Polymeric Materials as Biocontrol Agents with Application in Eco–Agriculture” (AGROBIOMAT), funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU through the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism for the implementation of the investment under C2I2 “Enhancing the Innovation Capacity of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) in the Field of Green and Digital Technologies” of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, has been launched and is being implemented at the Institute of Polymers – BAS.
The main objective of the project is to obtain a range of new and innovative polymeric materials with controlled design suitable as carriers for biocontrol agents with potential application in eco-agriculture. The specific objectives are aimed at applying and combining classical with “green” methods to meet the needs for the treatment of crop diseases as well as to increase the level of knowledge and technology for the development of a circular economy and efficient use and recovery of raw materials.
The project leader is Prof. Dr. Olya Stoilova and the team is composed of highly qualified researchers with knowledge and experience in crucial disciplines such as polymer chemistry, isolation and cultivation of new biocontrol and plant protection agents. The successful implementation of the project is expected to provide new knowledge in the field of ecological agriculture, increase the innovation capacity of the participants and develop an approach to create innovative biocontrol agents in eco-agriculture – an important tool in combating problems such as climate change, environmental degradation and biodiversity loss. This will contribute to a smooth and sustainable transition towards an eco-friendly society.
