The fifteenth scientific session “Young Scientists in the World of Polymers”, organized by the Institute of Polymers of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, was held on June 6. The forum is held annually in June and is attended by PhD students, post-docs, young scientists, interns and students interested in polymer science. The event is part of the Institute of Polymers’ activities to promote the scientific achievements of young researchers to the academic community, business and the general public.

Three papers and 20 posters were presented by participants from the Institute of Polymers-BAS, the Institute of Chemical Engineering-BAS, the “Acad. Georgi Nadjakov” Institute of Solid State Physics-BAS, the “Stephan Angeloff” Institute of Microbiology-BAS, the “Acad. Evgeni Budevski” Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems-BAS, the Institute of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering-BAS, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy and Medical University – Sofia.

A scientific jury awarded five of the developments:

  • Rumena Stancheva from IP-BAS for her report on “Mixed-type polymeric micelles based on polypiperazines as gene transfer vectors”;
  • Erik Dimitrov from IP-BAS for his report on “Synthesis of poly(2-isopropyl-2-oxazoline) and polyethylenimine copolymers with potential applications for gene therapy”;
  • Sen. Asst. Prof. Dr. Nasko Nachev from IP-BAS for the “Design of innovative polymeric materials as biocontrol agents with application in eco-agriculture” poster;
  • Prof. Teodora Dimitrova from FCP-SU for the “Construction of polymer microneedles by 3D printing” poster and;
  • Krum Alexandrov from IP-BAS for the “Synthesis of polymer amphiphiles for niosome surface modification” poster.

Special guests of the Scientific Session were students from “Academician Ivan Tsenov” Highschool with natural sciences and mathematics profile, Vratsa, accompanied by Ms. Dimitrina Milcheva, teacher of Chemistry and Environmental Protection.
