The renovation of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences building in Sofia won the Golden Facade prize in the “Renovation of Historical Buildings” category in the eighteenth “Facade of the Year 2022-2023” competition of “Baumit Bulgaria”. The investor Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in the person of the President Prof. Julian Revalski, the designers arch. Milena Krachanova, restorer Aglika Ikonomova, eng. Marian Valchev and Rosen Yovchev and the contractor “EM Building 2020” association.

Thank you to the team of designers and contractors who have restored the splendour of this exceptional building in the centre of Sofia, the first stage of which dates back to the 19th century and whose existence I believe you all know is an inevitable part of Bulgaria’s post-liberation history, said in his words of gratitude Prof. Revalski, Member of the Academy. A competition that meets the fantasy and beauty of architecture with high technology and enables us to enjoy beautiful works afterwards.

The aim of the competition is to assess the buildings that combine the creative vision of the architect with the high quality of the products used and professional execution, thus contributing significantly to the cultivation of the settlements and landscape in the Republic of Bulgaria. The “Facade of the Year 2022-2023” competition involved 101 projects completed in the years 2022 and 2023.

A professional jury chaired by Arch. Radomir Serafimov and members arch. Vladimir Popov, arch. Tsvetelin Tsonevski, arch. Stefan Tsonev, arch. Plamen Todorov, Prof. Dr. arch. Orlin Davchev and the manager of Baumit Bulgaria Nikolay Bachvarov determined the first, second and third prize for a maximum of 6 sites from each category. Each of the winners has also got the opportunity to participate in the international Life Challenge competition which will take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia in May 2024.
