On the occasion of the 185th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Marin Drinov, wreaths and flowers at his monument in Scientific Complex 1 of BAS were presented by the President of the Academy Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, and representatives of the management of the Academy, the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members and the Institutes of the Academy, the Director General of BTA Kiril Valchev and journalists. Prof. Marin Drinov was the first president of the Bulgarian Learned Society (BLS), which grew into the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, pointed out in his speech the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski. It is difficult to note in a few words all his contributions both to the development of the Academy and to the development of our country. The President of BAS pointed out that Marin Drinov was a supporter of the fact that science is international and should make bridges to other nations. His words sound completely contemporary today, emphasized Prof. Revalski and said that we were all obliged to fulfill his legacy.
An exhibition “The Book and Documentary Heritage of Marin Drinov at BAS” was opened at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. On the occasion of the 185th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Marin Drinov, archival photographs and documents stored in the Scientific Archives of BAS, as well as scientific publications in the Periodical Journal of the Bulgarian Learned Society (BLS) and publications from the Central Library of the Academy are on display. The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski opened the exhibition about the eminent scientist and statesman. People like Prof. Marin Drinov were rarely met, and we are obliged to continue his work, he said in his speech. Prof. Lisbeth Lyubenova, Director of the Scientific Archives of BAS, presented historical facts from the life and scientific achievements of Prof. Marin Drinov.
On 19 and 20 October in the hometown of Prof. Drinov – Panagyurishte, a national scientific conference “Science, Education, Statehood and Modernization in Bulgaria in the 19th and early 20th century” is held. The organizers of the forum are the Panagyurishte Municipality, the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Historical Museum in Panagyurishte.
