The International Scientific Conference MetMat2022, dedicated to methods and materials for clean technologies, took place from 7 to 10 September in the city of Sandanski. The scientific forum is organized by the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry at BAS which is one of the leading scientific organisations in Bulgaria in the field of materials chemistry. The MetMat2022 training workshop was implemented within the framework of the European Twinning on Materials Chemistry Enabling Clean Technologies (TwinTeam) project, coordinated by the IGIC-BAS. The forum was held in a hybrid format – in-person and online and brought together about 85 scientists who presented and discussed current trends in the development of next generation materials in three main areas – A: Materials and thin films for environmental protection, B: Materials for clean energy storage and C: Ceramics/bioceramics and glasses for better life (with applications in optics, molecular electronics and medicine). The workshop was attended by foreign scientists from the three TwinTeam partner organisations that are leading the way in innovative materials: Imperial College London (UK), the Institute for Applied Materials – Energy Storage Systems at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany) and the Institute of Materials Science at the University of Seville (Spain). The forum was also attended by scientists, PhD students and students from IGIC-BAS, FCP-SU and the chemical institutes of BAS.
The Forum was opened by Prof. Dr. Radostina Stoyanova (IGIC-BAS) who presented the activities implemented so far and the scientific programme, including five sessions with 9 plenary lectures and two lectures by Zeiss Aquachim and BioLogic (France)BioLogic & ELTA 90. Two poster sessions were held with a total of 40 posters presented. MetMat2022 ended with the awarding of the best poster and wishes for new meetings.
