The winners of the 2021 prizes were announced by Evrika Foundation. They are awarded to young people for their significant achievements in science, for inventions of great social significance, for achievements in the management of business organizations and for the highest results in the development of agricultural activities.

Silviya Hristova received the joint prize of the Evrika Foundation and the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria for the excellent defence of her dissertation on “Tautomerism as an elementary mechanism for signal transfer in molecular devices”.

Silviya Hristova’s main research interests are in the field of analytical, theoretical and physical organic chemistry. During her studies, she worked as a chemist at the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Center of Phytochemistry at BAS. Since 2017, she is a full-time PhD student in organic chemistry at IOCCP – BAS. A significant contribution to her growth as an organized and ambitious young researcher who has mastered the basic experimental techniques has her scientific supervisor Prof. Dr. Lyudmil Antonov. Silviya Hristova’s scientific output is impressive. The results of her research have been presented at 17 scientific forums in the form of lectures and poster presentations. She is an active participant in 8 scientific projects funded by Bulgarian and foreign sources, which led to active publication activity. She is a co-author in a total of 15 scientific publications on her thesis and beyond.

Silviya Hristova’s dissertation examines the possibility of using controlled proton transfer as an elementary process in molecular machines. The concept is based on the use of single molecules as “hardware” elements (wires, logic elements, capacitors, switches, etc.) that can be assembled into working devices.
