Three new academicians in the medical sciences and humanities have been elected today by the Assembly of Academicians.
In the Medical Sciences Branch:
Academician Grigor Angelov Gorchev, MD, DSc
Was born in 1956. Specialty: obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, surgery. Nationally and internationally renowned specialist in the field of robotic and laparoscopic surgery. Innovator and implementer of new operative and non-operative methods in the field of gynecology. University scientist and lecturer. Corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 2014. He works at the Medical University of Pleven.
Academician Chavdar Krumov Slavov, DSc
Was born in 1953. Specialty: urology, transplantology, surgery, oncology. Nationally and internationally renowned urologist, participant in Bulgarian and international innovative research and treatment of prostate cancer and other diseases of the urogenital system. University lecturer and researcher. Corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 2014. He works at University Hospital “Tsaritsa Yoanna”.

Academician Vassil Atanasov Nikolov
Was born in 1951. He is a world-renowned scholar in archaeology and history. His scientific contributions are in various aspects of the study of late prehistory: the origins of Neolithic culture in the Eastern and Central Balkans, Neolithic pottery, prehistoric architecture, specialized industries in the Chalcolithic, complex society in the Chalcolithic, the religious and mythological system of ancient farmers, prehistoric pit sanctuaries, the first prehistoric stone fortresses in Europe, etc.
In 2014, he was elected a corresponding member of BAS. He works at the National Archaeological Institute with Museum of BAS.
