Dr. Venelin Todorov – PhD in Mathematics from the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is the winner of the John Atanasoff Grand Prize for 2021.
Head of State Rumen Radev welcomed the winners in the President’s initiative John Atanasoff Prize for 2021 at a ceremony in the Coat of Arms Hall at Dondukov 2. The President highlighted that the achievements of the young scientists are a source of pride because the results of their work find application in all developed countries and contribute to the development of vital areas such as education, science, economy, healthcare and security.
Venelin Todorov is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Informatics with a specialty in Modelling of Complex Large-Scale Systems at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS. Dr. Todorov’s main achievements consist in the development of highly efficient stochastic and deterministic approaches for optimization of algorithms and modelling of complex systems with very large dimensionality. The algorithms developed by Dr. Todorov find applications in neural network modelling in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, high-performance computing in quantum mechanics and financial mathematics. The methods are also used with success in the prediction of atmospheric processes of very large dimensionality, long-range transport of pollutants, sustainable agriculture, ecology and bioeconomics.
Assoc. Prof. Venelin Todorov is the winner of the Grand Prize “Pythagoras” for young scientist for 2021 of the Minister of Education and Science, the winner of the BAS Award for young scientists up to 35 years in the field of information and communication sciences and technologies “Professor Marin Drinov” for 2019, the BAS award for the most successful project for young scientists under the BAS Programme for Support of Young Scientists 2017-2019, as well as the award for the best young scientist of BAS for 2018.
The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, the Minister of Education and Science Nikolai Denkov, representatives of academia, lecturers, students and pupils attended the ceremony.
