The 13th International Conference on Large-Scale Scientific Computations LSSC’21 is organized by the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies – BAS in cooperation with the Bulgarian Section of SIAM (BG SIAM) and the Centre of Excellence in Informatics and ICT (http://ict.acad.bg/). The forum took place in a hybrid form from 7 to 11 June 2021, in Sozopol.
The conference was opened by Corr.-Mem. Svetozar Margenov. The President of the Academy Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of BAS, congratulated the participants and noted that the series of conferences on large-scale scientific computing continues the tradition of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for organizing scientific forums at the highest international level.
More than 140 participants from over 20 countries in Europe, America, Asia and Africa took part in the event. Papers were presented in 9 special sessions (mini-symposia) and many were delivered remotely, but nevertheless a great deal of interest and discussion was provoked. Among the main topics was the synergy between scientific computing and supercomputing applications in big data environments.
For the first time in the long history of the conference, with the financial support of Hewlett Packard Enterprise Bulgaria, represented by Selectium, prizes were established for the best papers. Impressive results are presented in the two awarded papers:
1) „Decoupling Methods for Systems of Parabolic Equations“ with author P. Vabishchevich;
2) „Boolean tensor factorization on quantum annealers“ with authors Elijah Pelofske, G. Hahn, D. O’Malley, H. Djidjev, B. Alexandrov.
