Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences have prepared the draft of a Concept for the development of artificial intelligence in Bulgaria until 2030. The document has been adopted at today’s meeting of the Council of Ministers and offers a comprehensive vision for the development and use of artificial intelligence in Bulgaria.

The concept is based on documents developed by a team of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and external experts: “Framework of the National Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Bulgaria” (2019) and “Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Bulgaria until 2030 (preliminary vision)” (2020).

Systems, applications and services based on artificial intelligence technologies will support the development of education, public services, agriculture, healthcare and the environment. These sectors are outlined as priorities in the Concept for the development of artificial intelligence in Bulgaria until 2030.

The main goal of the document is to unite the efforts for development and implementation of systems with artificial intelligence by creating scientific, expert, business and managerial capacity. It is envisaged to provide a modern communication and scientific infrastructure for the development of new generation digital technologies. The system of education and lifelong learning will be improved. The development of research and the introduction of innovations in key sectors will be supported, and the introduction of an ethical legal and regulatory framework that enjoys public trust will be worked upon. The concept is based on the strategic and programming documents of the European Commission which consider artificial intelligence as one of the main drivers of digital transformation in Europe.
