The Institute of Electronics, the Institute of Robotics and the Central Laboratory of Applied Physics of BAS participate in a tech park under the project Center of Competence “Intelligent mechatronic, Eco- and energy-saving systems and technologies” which was officially opened on 20 November in Gabrovo.

The total value of the project is BGN 23 569 719, granted by “Science and Education for Smart Growth 2014-2020” Operational Program, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. The Technical University of Gabrovo is a leading organisation and works together with six partners.

The ceremony was attended by the mayor of Gabrovo municipality Tanya Hristova, the district governor Nevena Mineva, the executive director of the Managing Authority of “Science and Education for Smart Growth” OP Kiril Geratliev, representatives of partner organisations and businesses. The Minister of Education Krasimir Valchev virtually greeted the participants in the opening.

The tech park has a modern scientific infrastructure with high-tech equipment. There are 14 laboratories, grouped in four laboratory complexes.

The Director of the Institute of Electronics of BAS, Prof. Petar Petrov, who is also the head of the laboratory “Intelligent Technologies Based on Intensive Energy Flows”, presented a plenary report on “Electron beam welding: processes, materials and techniques”.
