The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (“Das Verdienstkreuz am Bande”) was awarded to Corr.-Mem. Prof. Ilza Pajeva who was also honorary member of the Humboldt Union in Bulgaria. The ceremony took place on 9 July at the residence of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Christoph Eichhorn. The event was attended by the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of BAS, and the Vice-President, Corr.-Mem. Vassil Nikolov, the President of HUB Prof. Lora Taseva and other representatives of the leadership of HUB. The German side was also represented by Mr. Jörg Schenk, Head of the “Science” and “Translation” Departments and Ms. Mila Ilieva from the “Culture” Department.

In his short speech, HE Christoph Eichhorn expressed his joy to present such a high state award to Prof. Ilza Pajeva who had been contributing to the development of German-Bulgarian scientific contacts for decades. In her words of gratitude, she highlighted that she accepted this order not only as a personal honor but also as recognition of the role of the Humboldtians in the scientific and cultural exchange between the two countries. In his congratulatory message, Prof. Julian Revalski emphasized the contributions of Prof. Pajeva as a member of the Governing Council of BAS and Secretary of the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members.
