The Danube Academies Conference brings together all the national academies in the Danube Region and focuses on research in this area. It is a knowledge sharing platform between the national academies of Central and Eastern Europe. The idea dates from 2010 when the EU launched the EU Strategy for the Danube Region in order to improve the coordination of relevant actors and programs to promote the development of the Danube Region. On the basis of this EU project and the support of the European Commission, in particular Mr Johannes Hahn, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts organized the first conference of the Danube Academies in Vienna in 2011.
