Three full members of BAS were honored by President Rumen Radev with state awards at a ceremony at the Coat-of-Arms Hall in the Presidency. These are Academician Vladimir Ovcharov, Academician Chavdar Roumenin and Academician Angel Galabov.

Academician Vladimir Ovcharov was awarded the Order “St. Cyril and Methodius“ – pendant for contribution to the development of medical science and education in Bulgaria. With the Order “St. St. Cyril and Methodius“ – first degree, the Head of State honored for his merits in the field of science Academician Chavdar Roumenin. The virologist Acad. Angel Galabov was also awarded the Order “St. Cyril and Methodius“ – first degree for contribution to education and science.

A sign of our nation’s vitality are the world-wide successes achieved by prominent Bulgarians who have been awarded state honors today, President Radev said at the ceremony on which he honored with orders distinguished figures in the area of science, education, sports, medicine and literature. Stara Planina order – first degree was awarded to the writer Vladimir Zarev – for his merits to the field of culture and art and the legendary basketball player Atanas Golomeev for his contributions to the field of sports. Hristo Miryanov was honored posthumously with The For Merit Medal. The distinction of the famous wrestling coach is for his contribution to the field of sports.

At the ceremony, President Rumen Radev pointed out that the civic and professional energy of the honorees inspires national confidence and spirit in our society. “Despite the different directions in which you work, there is a strong and deep relationship among you: it is expressed in your responsible attitude towards the future of the next generations of Bulgarians”, the Head of State said to the holders of the higher honors.
