Postage stamp “150 Years of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences” was validated today by the President of BAS, Prof. Julian Revalski, DSc and the Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rosen Zhelyazkov. The ceremony was held in “Prof. Marin Drinov” hall of the Academy. The project’s artist, Maya Staykova, the Executive Director of Bulgarian Posts, Deyan Duneshki, representatives of the Board of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, scientists and guests were present.
In all the years since its establishment, our organization has played a significant role in the history of Bulgaria. The members of the Bulgarian Learned Society, which later grew up into the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, were public figures of the Bulgarian Revival and played a key role in the construction of an independent Bulgaria, the President Academician Julian Revalski said at the ceremony. He recalled that members of the Academy were successful statesmen, prime ministers, distinguished scientists, and participated in the creation of the first higher education institution. Our predecessors established the Bulgarian science around the world, and after World War II, they took part in the creation of key industries for the country, said also Prof. Revalski.
The Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Rosen Zhelyazkov congratulated the scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on the occasion of the 150th anniversary. The postage stamp is not only a universal symbol that connects people but it is a work of art and an object of collector’s passion, said Minister Zhelyazkov. He thanked the scientists of BAS for the successful joint work on a number of projects.
