Scientists Folklorists will Acquaint Pupils with the Traditions on St. Lazar’s Day

Pupils from 4th primary school "Prof. John Atanasoff” in Sofia will visit, on April 18th, the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum (IEFSEM). They will learn about the main features of St. Lazar’s holiday - its place and meaning in the spring maiden ritual; about the various actions that make up the preparation and the actual feast; about the specific elements in the clothing of the lazarki; about the ritual jewelry and utensils used, etc. Children will learn all this from archival videos from different regions of the country which are stored at the National Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage at IEFSEM - BAS as well as from artifacts in the museum's representative exposition. A Hundred and Fifty Trees will be Planted by Scientists on the Occasion of Earth Day

A hundred and fifty trees will be planted by scientists and employees of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on the occasion of Earth Day 22 April. It is an initiative of the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography (NIGGG) and the Forest Institute (FI) and is dedicated to the 150th jubilee of BAS. The green areas will be planted in front of NIGGG building in the scientific complex of BAS at 4th km. Saplings of more than 25 deciduous and coniferous species, mostly of local origin, as well as beautiful flowering trees are selected. The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics and the Ministry of Education and Science organize the European Competition for Young Scientists (EUCYS)

The thirty-first edition of the European Competition for Young Scientists (EUCYS) will be held in Sofia from 13 to 18 September 2019. A hundred and fifty-five students from 40 countries from all over the world (including Canada, China, Russia, USA and South Korea) will arrive in Sofia to participate in the largest and most prestigious competition for young scientists under the auspices of the European Union. The organizers of this year's competition are the Ministry of Education and Science and the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Partner of the event is Sofia Municipality. The competition was created in 1989 on the initiative of the European Commission and annually distinguishes the best student scientific achievements.
