Women in Public Administration conference

A conference on "Women in Public Administration" was held today at the House of Europe. The event was organized by the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria and the "More Women in Politics" NGO with the aim to initiate a public discussion on the topic of women in public administration and the opportunities for development, including the promotion of women's participation in politics, diplomacy, security and other areas that are key to state-building. BAS economists: Energy efficiency measures should take into account territorial differences and household vulnerability

Taking into account territorial differences in social and energy vulnerability of households is a strong tool to overcome poverty and inequalities and to achieve a wider coverage of measures with the same financial means. For example, improving the energy efficiency of individual houses is more cost-effective than implementing these measures for multi-family buildings. The reason for this is that funding can only be provided with income criteria for the most vulnerable households with 3 or more members. With an investment of BGN 100 million and a limit of funding per household of up to BGN 20 thousand, 5.7 per cent of houses with three or more residents where 23 598 energy poor people live will be renovated while apartment buildings will account for only 0.92 [...]

Pepka Boyadjieva is Professor Emeritus of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology

Prof. DSc Pepka Boyadjieva has been awarded the honorary title "Professor Emeritus" of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of BAS. The solemn ceremony took place yesterday in the "Acad. Ivan E. Geshov" hall of BAS-Administration. "Prof. Boyadjieva has devoted 40 years to her work at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology," the Director Prof. Emilia Chengelova said and added that "in recent years her research had been mainly in the field of sociology of education." At the celebration, Prof. Pepka Boyadjieva delivered a lecture entitled "(Im)possible Sociologies: sociology of failure". Shadow Economy Tolerance Index

The Institute of Philosophy and Sociology - BAS (IPS) has completed the implementation of a three-year research project "Shadow economy factor determination and approaches to limit it in Bulgarian society" (Contract KP-06-H35/9 of 18.12.2019), funded by the Bulgarian National Science Fund and implemented by a team under the scientific leadership of Prof. Emilia Chengelova. The project is a continuation of a decade-long tradition of scientists from IPS - BAS to study shady practices in the Bulgarian economy. What is new is the focus of the research lens on the empirical study of the "shadow economy" factor determination. BAS economists: BGN 1.63 billion per year is the total financial effect of Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen

Five specific benefits with a total financial effect of BGN 1.63 billion per year will receive Bulgaria from joining the Schengen area by land. This is according to the assessment of the scientists from the Economic Research Institute at BAS in a special study conducted in early 2024 on the initiative of the Ministry of Economy and Industry on the economic impact of the forthcoming decision for Bulgarian citizens to travel freely between the individual member states without being subject to border controls. The biggest benefit is for heavy freight transport as well as for producers and exporters of goods whose direct costs are estimated at BGN 845 million. BAS economists: convergence in the EU generates faster economic growth in low-income countries

In the European Union, there is convergence which arises from faster economic growth in low-income countries.
