Opening of Laboratory “Virtual History of Bulgarian Literature (IX-XXI centuries)”

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, inaugurated the laboratory "Virtual History of Bulgarian Literature (IX-XXI centuries)" at the Institute for Literature. The laboratory is part of the project "Establishment and Development of the Centre of Excellence "Heritage BG", funded by the Operational Programme "Science and Education for Smart Growth 2014-2020". The Institute for Literature is a partner in the project which is implemented by a consortium of twelve leading educational and scientific organisations. Their activities are oriented towards the management and safeguarding of Bulgarian cultural heritage, the management of protected areas and environmental protection, regional development, education, various economic sectors of the creative and recreational industries, the development of libraries, museums and archives, arts, etc.

Academician Vassil Nikolov awarded with the Honorary Medal of BAS “Marin Drinov on a Ribbon”

Academician Vassil Nikolov was awarded with the honorary medal of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences "Marin Drinov on a ribbon". The award was given by the President of the Academy Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member (Academician) of BAS during a ceremony held on November 8. BAS is awarding Acad. Nikolov for his outstanding contribution to the development of Bulgarian archaeology, as an established authority in European prehistoric science and in connection with his 70th anniversary, announced the President of BAS. Acad. Nikolov thanked for the high honour and this recognition of his work and stressed that he was happy to work with young people who are building and developing as scientists and his followers in archaeology. Golden Century Awards for Scientists of BAS

Photo: MC Three scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences have been awarded the "Golden Century" awards of the Ministry of Culture for their contribution to the development and popularization of Bulgarian culture. Corr. Mem. Prof. Plamen Markov was awarded the "Golden Century - Pendant", Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov and Assoc. Prof. Hristo Popov received the "Golden Century - Star" award. The awards were presented by the Deputy Ministers of Culture Prof. Dr. Borislava Taneva and Assoc. Prof. Plamen Slavov at a ceremony held on the Day of National Enlighteners.

130 years National Archaeological Museum

The exhibition "130 Years of the National Archaeological Museum" was presented on 25 October by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at BAS (NAIM-BAS). It is dedicated to the founding of the People’s Museum, now the National Archaeological Museum, separated as an independent institution from the Bulgarian People’s Library in 1892. This is the oldest and with the richest collection museum in the country. More than 150 of the most interesting exhibits, which entered the Museum's collection when it was a department of the People’s Library until the first decades of the 20th century, are presented. Unveiling of a bust-monument to the composer Acad. Petko Staynov

Bust-monument of the composer Acad. Petko Staynov was unveiled yesterday on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the birth of the great Bulgarian composer. The monument is located in the Alley of Artists in the Borisova Gradina park. The authors of the project are the sculptor Prof. Valentin Startchev, artist Kamen Startchev and arch. Ivan Avramov. The official event was attended by the Vice-President of BAS Corr. Mem. Evdokia Pasheva, the Minister of Culture in the Caretaker Government Velislav Minekov, representatives of the Union of Bulgarian Composers, the Union of the Blind in Bulgaria, musicians, scientists and citizens. Prof. Julian Revalski visited Provadia-Solnitsa

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, visited today the prehistoric salt-mining and urban center Provadia-Solnitsa, studied this year by a team of the National Archaeological Institute and Museum of BAS and the Historical Museum in Provadia under the leadership of Acad. Vassil Nikolov. The guest was acquainted with the new results of the excavation of structures from the 6th and 5th millennium BC, the conservation and restoration activities and the socialisation of the monument. Acad. Nikolov regretted the lack of a clear state strategy regarding the financing of the study and conservation of the archaeological heritage in Bulgaria, which was expressed in the last year also in the unacceptable delay in the implementation of the relevant supporting state programmes.
