Prize for outstanding achievement in the field of historical anthropology of Southeast Europe for young researchers

  Sen. Asst. Prof. Dr. Mina Hristova from the Section of Balkan Ethnology at IEFSEM-BAS was awarded on November 10 with the Karl Kaser Prize for outstanding achievements in the field of historical anthropology of Southeast Europe for young researchers for her first monograph "We are Bulgarians but not quite". Interspaces and Hybrid Identities in the Balkans in the 21st Century. The prize was shared between her and another young researcher from Slovenia, Dr. Daša Ličen, after a long and contested selection process. Scientific Conference “Turkish Modernity – Political, Social and Cultural Dimensions of the XIX-XX Centuries”

On 30 and 31 October 2023, the Institute of Balkan Studies and Center of Thracology - BAS held a scientific conference on "Turkish Modernity - Political, Social and Cultural Dimensions of the XIX-XX Centuries". The occasion for the event was the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey on 29 October 1923. In the scientific forum, 17 scholars- presented reports from the Institute of Balkan Studies-BAS, the Institute of Historical Studies-BAS, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski, Plovdiv University, ULSIT and other scientific institutions. The prehistoric complex Provadia-Solnitsata impressed the European Parliament

An exhibition dedicated to the prehistoric complex of Provadia-Solnitsata impressed the European Parliament with scientific discoveries about human life at the dawn of European civilization. The exposition is organized with the assistance of the Bulgarian MEP from EPP/GERB Emil Radev and in partnership with the archaeological team under the leadership of Acad. Vassil Nikolov, the National Archaeological Institute and Museum of BAS and the Historical Museum in Provadia. BAS celebrates the 185th anniversary of the birth of its first president and co-founder Prof. Marin Drinov

On the occasion of the 185th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Marin Drinov, wreaths and flowers at his monument in Scientific Complex 1 of BAS were presented by the President of the Academy Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, and representatives of the management of the Academy, the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members and the Institutes of the Academy, the Director General of BTA Kiril Valchev and journalists.   The celebration of the 185th anniversary of the birth of the first president and co-founder of the Bulgarian Learned Society (today Bulgarian Academy of Sciences), Prof. Marin Drinov, were discussed at a meeting today by the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, and the Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Kiril Valchev. Prof. Marin Drinov was born on October 20, 1838 in the town of Panagyurishte. Memorial plaque of Prof. Geza Feher in Sofia

Memorial plaque to the Hungarian scientist and foreign member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Geza Feher (1890-1955) was unveiled today in front of the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Sofia. The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, and the Ambassador of Hungary to Bulgaria H.E. Miklós Boros attended the event. Geza Feher is considered to be one of the founders of Proto-Bulgarian history. Thanks to his scientific works, our history has come to the fore of other nations, said Prof. Revalski. H.E.
