Honorary medal “FOR MERITS TO BAS” for Prof. Raytcho Lazarov

  The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, awarded an honorary medal "FOR MERITS TO BAS" to Prof. Raytcho Lazarov. The Governing Board of the Academy awarded the distinction to Prof. Lazarov for his contribution to the modern development of scientific research in the field of numerical methods and algorithms at BAS. Raytcho Lazarov is a world-renowned scientist in the field of mathematics and computer science, Professor Emeritus at Texas A&M University. He has published highly acclaimed and cited joint papers with scientists from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics and the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of BAS.  

Neurotechnology research project launched

A new experimental laboratory at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IICT) will be established under the "VIBraTE" project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme. This was announced by Assoc. Prof. Dimiter Prodanov who presented the planned activities of the project and gave a lecture at BAS on the perspectives of neurotechnologies. The "VIBraTE" project has started in February 2023 and will last until 31 January 2028. The Director of IICT Corr. Mem. Svetozar Margenov, who opened the event, specified that so far in Bulgaria such an innovative project had not been implemented. Assoc. Memorial plaque of Acad. Stefan Dodunekov in Veliko Tarnovo

A memorial plaque to Academician Stefan Dodunekov was inaugurated on 10 November in Veliko Tarnovo. The Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS, the Union of Mathematicians in Bulgaria and the Regional Academic Center of BAS in Veliko Tarnovo organized the event. The memorial plaque of Acad. Dodunekov is located in the alley "Personalities of Bulgaria with contribution to Veliko Tarnovo", where memorials are placed to prominent personalities who contributed with their activities to the development and promotion of the city in all areas of life. Bulgarian participation in the world’s first NEMO BMI project

The Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of BAS (IICT) is a partner in the NEMO BMI project: 'Auto-adaptive neuromorphic Brain-Machine Interface', funded by the European Innovation Council. The project is related to the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare. This was announced at BAS by world-renowned scientist Prof. Nikola Kasabov, who is a guest professor at the Institute and participates in the project. Scientists from the institute, part of an international consortium, are starting work on the creation of a decoder for brain signals, Prof. Kasabov said. Experts from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and Huawei discussed trust in the digital world

A panel discussion on the topic "Trust in the digital world" was held on September 27 at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, together with the technology company Huawei Technologies Bulgaria. During the discussion, experts shared experiences and knowledge on topics related to trust in the digital world, proactive identification of future cyber threats, biometrically secured community resource sharing, the digital future with artificial intelligence and data management, "smart" cities, infrastructure for high performance computing.
