Scientists at BAS have developed an innovative method that reveals the movement of chromosomes with unprecedented accuracy

 The paper has received outstanding recognition - it has been selected for the cover of the April issue (2025) of the Nature Cell Biology journal. An all-Bulgarian research team from the “Acad. Roumen Tsanev” Institute of Molecular Biology at BAS published an article in the Nature Cell Biology journal on 14 April 2025. The authors of the study are Rumen Stamatov, Sonya Uzunova, Yoana Kicheva, Maria Karaboeva and Tavian Blagoev, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Stoyno Stoynov. The team overcomes long-standing methodological challenges in the study of chromosome dynamics during mitosis, a key process in cell division. BAS celebrates the Forest Week

Scientists from three institutes of BAS participated in an initiative to reforest the campus of Scientific Complex 1. Several species of saplings were planted at the idea of young scientists from the Institute for Population and Human Studies, among which ginkgo biloba, common sycamore and red oak predominated. The event coincided with the celebration of "Forest Week" (7 - 14 April 2025) which this year is under the theme "A Century of Eternity in Creation, Conservation and Care". Scientists from the Forest Research Institute and the Space Research and Technology Institute also participated in the planting. The initiative “Two Academies – One Stage” starts with “Masterpieces of Opera and Operetta Classics”

The joint initiative of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Music, MUSICORUM VIA, has started with a concert entitled “Masterpieces of Opera and Operetta Classics. Two Academies - One Stage”. Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev holds a meeting with scientists from BAS

They have discussed the possibilities of support from the Ministry of Innovation and Growth for a Bulgarian development on laser fusion generation Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev has visited the Institute of Solid State Physics at BAS (ISSP-BAS). The role of science diplomacy in a changing world

On 25 March UNESCO organized a high-level conference on science diplomacy in which the Bulgarian delegation was led by Corr. Memb. Evdokia Pasheva, Vice-President of BAS. The main topics discussed at the conference were related to the science diplomacy of the 20th century, its role in promoting openness and security of science, building equitable collaborations for the development and responsible application of new technologies and ensuring peaceful use of shared resources. Corr. Memb. Pasheva also took part in the Global Ministerial Dialogue on 26 March during which issues such as science diplomacy in a changing world, science diplomacy for shared natural and scientific resources, science diplomacy in times of crises, in a world with disruptive technologies, and advancing open and secure science were again discussed. HYDROGEN ENERGY – the second in the series of training courses of IEES-BAS under the Green Skills for Hydrogen programme

A team of scientists from the “Acad. Evgeni Budevski” Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems at BAS (IEES-BAS) headed by the President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, DSc, started the second of a series of training courses under the Green Skills for Hydrogen project. The start of the training sessions was given on 24 March with a welcome address by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nedelina Kostadinova, Secretary General of Trakia University, Stara Zagora.
