Newly elected academicians of BAS

Elections for new members of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (academicians and corresponding members) are held from 24 to 28 September. The Assembly of Academicians has elected the following new academicians of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences:       Mathematical Sciences: Academician Stefan Petrov Ivanov (born 1957) His scientific interests are in the field of geometry and mathematical physics. He is an internationally recognized and established specialist in Riemannian and complex differential geometry, string theories, quaternion geometry, etc., with some of his strongest results in string theories and geometry. Acad. Stefan Ivanov has made an indisputable contribution to the development of the Bulgarian school of modern differential geometry and geometry of manifolds. “The Lords of Salt: Provadia-Solnitsata 5600 – 4350 BC” еxhibition

An exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the beginning of the archaeological research of the oldest prehistoric salt mining and urban center in Europe, Provadia-Solnitsa, was officially opened on June 11 at the National Archaeological Institute and Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (NAIM-BAS). The exposition presents more than 530 artifacts discovered during the research of Provadia-Solnitsa. The exhibits date back to the Late Prehistory (6th and 5th millennium BC), and objects from the Late Hellenistic period and Antiquity are also represented. Scientists present innovative developments with wide application at the Science for Business Forum

Five successfully implemented projects were presented at the fourth edition of the Science for Business Forum held today at the Inter Expo Center. A method for recycling drug waste, the development of processes for collagen extraction, an innovative solution for assessing water pollution with microplastics were shown by scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The event was organized for the fourth consecutive year by BAS and the Bulgarian Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion Agency (BSMEPA). Ceremonial Assembly of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for 24 May

A solemn assembly on the occasion of May 24 was held today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The President of the General Assembly of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva opened the event for the Day of the Holy Brothers Cyril and Methodius, of the Bulgarian alphabet, education and culture and of the Slavonic literature. Scientists from BAS with the most prestigious award for science “Pythagoras”

Corr. Memb. Prof. DSc Stanislav Vassilev from the Institute of Mineralogy and Crystallography of BAS has been awarded the Pythagoras Grand Prize of the Ministry of Education and Science for his overall scientific contribution. He received a diploma and a cash prize of BGN 12 000 at a ceremony on 17 May. The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, participated in the event which was held annually, in 2024 for the 16th time. Corr. Memb. The President of BAS participates in a PABSEC meeting

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, participated in the 63rd Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (BSECO), which was held from 13 to 15 May in Tirana, Albania. The organisation is a unique model for a multilateral political and economic initiative to harmonise the actions of member states, to ensure peace, security and development of the Black Sea region in the spirit of friendly relations.
