Meeting of Prof. Revalski with H.E. Olesya Ilashchuk

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will participate in the organization of events on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Ukraine. This was agreed at a meeting at the Academy by the President Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, and the Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria H.E. Olesya Ilashchuk. At the meeting, the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Julian Revalski presented the long-standing cooperation between scientists from both countries. During her visit, H.E. Ilashchuk expressed her gratitude to BAS for the assistance the Academy provides to Ukrainian scientists and their families who have sought refuge in Bulgaria after the beginning of the war in Ukraine. 100th anniversary of the birth of the eminent Italian Slavist and Bulgarianist Prof. Riccardo Picchio

  Commemorative evening dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the eminent Italian specialist in Slavonic and Bulgarian studies Prof. Riccardo Picchio was held on 31 August in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The initiative is part of the events under the patronage of the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, organized within the national scientific programme "Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Language Studies Abroad". First Arctic expedition of the National Museum of Natural History-BAS

An international scientific expedition to the fjords of Southwest Greenland is taking place in the period 14-31 August 2023. The expedition team includes Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tihomir Stefanov from NMNHS-BAS together with scientists from Denmark, Norway and the UK. The task of the expedition is to study the impact of active glacier melt on fish populations in the region. For this purpose, two fjords will be studied - with and without glacial water inflow. In them, mainly different migration strategies of Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus) will be investigated using acoustic telemetry. The result expected by the team is a confirmation of the hypothesis that Arctic chars in Greenland fjords with inflow from glacial runoff will have different migratory behavior and feeding habits than chars inhabiting [...]

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences awarded a GOLD honorary plaquette to the "Prof. Fridtjof Nansen” Institute of Oceanology - Varna for its significant achievements in the research, conservation and sustainable use of the Black Sea and its resources and on the occasion of the 50th jubilee of its foundation. The solemn celebration took place in the "Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
