Awards of BAS for Prof. Diana Petkova and young scientists

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, presented Prof. Diana Petkova with the Honorary Medal of BAS "Marin Drinov on a Ribbon". The distinction is awarded for significant scientific achievements in the field of biochemistry and biophysics, for her multifaceted public, organizational and expert activities to raise the authority of Bulgarian science and on the occasion of her 70th anniversary. The ceremony has been held today during a solemn assembly of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria on the occasion of the Day of the National Enlighteners. Golden Century Awards for Scientists of BAS

Photo: MC Three scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences have been awarded the "Golden Century" awards of the Ministry of Culture for their contribution to the development and popularization of Bulgarian culture. Corr. Mem. Prof. Plamen Markov was awarded the "Golden Century - Pendant", Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov and Assoc. Prof. Hristo Popov received the "Golden Century - Star" award. The awards were presented by the Deputy Ministers of Culture Prof. Dr. Borislava Taneva and Assoc. Prof. Plamen Slavov at a ceremony held on the Day of National Enlighteners.

New plant species discovered and described for science

Sideritis elica Aneva, Zhelev & Bonchev is the new species discovered and described by Assoc. Prof. Ina Aneva (Scientific Secretary of division “Biodiversity, Bioresources and Ecology” and Researcher at the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research, BAS), Prof. Petar Zhelev (University of Forestry) and Sen. Asst. Prof. Georgi Bonchev, PhD (Institute of Plant Physiology and Genetics, BAS). Sideritis elica (Rhodope elica) differs morphologically from the well-known Mursal tea (Sideritis scardica), and the differences have been confirmed at the molecular level by the application of genetic analyses. 130 years National Archaeological Museum

The exhibition "130 Years of the National Archaeological Museum" was presented on 25 October by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at BAS (NAIM-BAS). It is dedicated to the founding of the People’s Museum, now the National Archaeological Museum, separated as an independent institution from the Bulgarian People’s Library in 1892. This is the oldest and with the richest collection museum in the country. More than 150 of the most interesting exhibits, which entered the Museum's collection when it was a department of the People’s Library until the first decades of the 20th century, are presented. Public discussion of the Environmental Assessment Report of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan

A public discussion of the Environmental Assessment Report (EAR) of NRRP was held on 21 October 2022 in “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Council of Ministers - Mr. Ivan Ivanov (Director of the "Central Coordination Unit" in the Council of Ministers) and Ms. Tsvetelina Hinkova (expert "Central Coordination Unit"). 50 years Bulgaria – space state

A celebration on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bulgaria's proclamation as a space state was held in “Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall of the Academy. The Space Research and Technology Institute (SRTI) of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was the organizer of the event which took place under the patronage of President Rumen Radev.
