Awards for Women in Science

The awards in the twelfth edition of the national fellowship programme "For Women in Science" were presented at a ceremony at Sofia University "St. Kl. Ohridski”. Three inspiring Bulgarian women scientists were honoured for their research ideas as fellows of the programme for 2022. They are Dr. Nina Kaneva-Dobrevska, lecturer in inorganic chemistry at SU “Kliment Ohridski" (for the project " Water treatment for pharmaceutical pollution"), Dr. Katerina Takova-Sakaliyska, lecturer in biology at "Paisii Hilendarski" University of Plovdiv (for the project "Immunodiagnosis of SARS-COV-2 infection by antigen produced in tobacco products") and Dr. Maya Zhekova, lecturer in quantum physics at SU “Kliment Ohridski" (for the project "Quasi-nondiffracting Bessel-Gaussian beams with residual topological charge"). Scientists from BAS inscribed in the “Golden Book” of the Patent Office

Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences were inscribed in the "Golden Book" of the Patent Office at a solemn ceremony held in the Armorial Hall of the Presidency. The 41st inscription ceremony honored the most outstanding Bulgarian inventors and discoverers. Head of State Rumen Radev presented honorary diplomas for the entry to Prof. DSc Eng. Pavlinka Dolashka and Prof. Dr. Kostadin Kostadinov. Awards of BAS for Prof. Diana Petkova and young scientists

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, presented Prof. Diana Petkova with the Honorary Medal of BAS "Marin Drinov on a Ribbon". The distinction is awarded for significant scientific achievements in the field of biochemistry and biophysics, for her multifaceted public, organizational and expert activities to raise the authority of Bulgarian science and on the occasion of her 70th anniversary. President’s Honorary Badge for Prof. Diana Petkova

The President of BAS participated in the conference of Scientific Francophonie in Cairo

At the invitation of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), from 26 to 28 October 2022 the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, participated in the Second Annual Conference of the Scientific Francophonie in Cairo, Egypt. The main theme of this year's forum was artificial intelligence. AUF is an international organisation with over 1000 participants (universities, institutes, research centers, etc.) spread over 119 countries. It aims to unite and support francophone scientific communities around the world. In 2022, BAS applied for associate membership in the AUF, and the Academy's application was approved at the regional level (Eastern Europe). Meeting of Prof. Julian Revalski with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea H.E. Mr. Lee Ho-shik. They discussed the opportunities for strengthening the cooperation between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and scientific organizations in the Republic of Korea, as well as the existing cooperation between BAS and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology. It is planned to organize a joint scientific seminar in Bulgaria. The meeting was also attended by the Vice-President of BAS Corr. Member Stefan Hadjitodorov.
