Young scientists of BAS were among the finalists of the Huawei Technologies Bulgaria scholarship program

An official annual closing ceremony of the Huawei Technologies Bulgaria Scholarship Program and the Seeds for the Future training program, which have been implemented in 2023, was held on December 12 in Sofia. Among the finalists of the Huawei Technologies Bulgaria Scholarship Program are two young scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Iskren Ivanov is a PhD student at the Space Research and Technology Institute - BAS and for the second time is a finalist of the scholarship program. Official Opening of the Geo Milev Campus

 The Geo Milev Campus - the newest laboratory complex of BAS, was opened at an official ceremony today. The campus has a unique scientific infrastructure for the country, distributed in 20 newly created and 10 renovated laboratories. Thirteen of the newly created laboratories are located in the reconstructed and modernized Block 29, part of the Scientific Complex 1 of the BAS. The renovation of the infrastructure was implemented under the project "National Centre for Mechatronics and Clean Technologies" with funding from the "Science and Education for Smart Growth" Operational Programme 2014-2020. Meeting of Prof. Revalski with the Ambassador of Japan H. E. Hisashi Michigami

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, met today with the Ambassador of Japan to Bulgaria H.E. Hisashi Michigami. Prof. Revalski introduced the guest to the history, structure and activities of the Academy. The President also mentioned the good relations of BAS with Japanese institutions such as the Science Council of Japan, RIKEN and Osaka University. The Ambassador, for his part, drew attention to the long-standing friendship between Bulgaria and Japan, the importance of science and education for our two countries and the potential of Bulgaria's human resources in the field of technologies. Awarded participants in the tenth high-school students’ scientific session

On December 2, the tenth edition of one of the Academy's educational initiatives aimed at students and teachers was opened - the High-School-Students’ Institute of BAS. The scientific competition session this year attracted participants from 29 schools and 17 cities in the country. The President of BAS opened the scientific forum by welcoming the participants of the session and encouraged the young people to be bold and active in their search for knowledge and communication with the scientific community. Two researchers from BAS with awards “For Women in Science”

  Dr. Nikoleta Kircheva and Dr. Rosita Kokotanekova from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences were awarded among more than 30 candidates who participated in the competition of the national programme "For Women in Science". The awards were presented at a ceremony at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski”. Dr. Nikoleta Kircheva is a senior assistant professor at the Institute of Optical Materials and Technologies (IOMT) and a member of the Computational Chemistry and Molecular Modelling group. Her winning project is in the field of chemistry and is entitled "Development of alternative antibiotic therapy with a focus on metals with antibacterial activity: Ag+/Ga3+/Ga-PPIX as an innovative treatment". Joint Academy Day of EASAC

ÖAW/Daniel Hinterramskogler On November 6, 2023, the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, took part in the Joint Academy Day organized by the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the European Academies’ Science Advisory Council (EASAC). From the beginning of 2024, the Austrian Academy of Sciences will host the EASAC Secretariat. The EASAC President, Prof. Wim van Saarloos, opened the event with a lecture on "Academies’ Scientific Councils in Support of Policy - Unification at European Level within EASAC". The event continued with a panel discussion on "Energy Transition: realistic ambitions and ambitious prospects" on EASAC's latest report The Future of Gas.
