How the Bulgarian scientists can support the process of successful energy transition in Europe was discussed at a meeting today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences by the President of the Academy Corr. The President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva met today with the Rector of the University of Forestry (UF) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristo Mihaylov. The opportunities for expanding the partnership and cooperation between the two institutions were discussed. Among the topics of the discussion were the activities of the Centre of Competence (Cleantech Bulgaria) project with the participation of the Institute of Organic Chemistry with a Centre of Phytochemistry, the "Stephan Angeloff" Institute of Microbiology and UF. The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences distinguished Acad. Svetlanka Kuyumdzhieva and Acad. Vassya Bankova with the "Marin Drinov" honorary medal. An international group of scientists from the Hereon Research Centre, part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres and the Institute of Oceanology at BAS, are working to clarify the situation with the pollution of the Black Sea following the accident with Russian tankers carrying fuel oil.  The accident was caused by a powerful sea storm resulting in one of the tankers splitting and spilling fuel oil. Prof. Dr. August Ivanov, Director of the Institute of Robotics of BAS, is listed in the Golden Book of Bulgarian Discoverers and Inventors. He is the only scientist to be awarded the highest distinction by the Patent Office for 2024. The President of the Patent Office Olya Dimitrova announced the name of Prof. Ivanov at an official ceremony held today at the Central Patent Library. Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Dr. David Sukalinski presented the award to Prof. Ivanov who worked in the field of robotics, sensorics, artificial intelligence, nano and micro technologies.
