2022 – International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development

The programme to mark the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development started with scientific lectures and presentations on topical issues. Prof. Ivan Lalov from the Union of Bulgarian Physicists presented in the auditorium of SU "St. Kliment Ohridski" the main highlights of the programme. Scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences participated in the event. Corr. Mem. Kostadin Ganev presented the National Scientific Programme (NSP) "Environmental Protection and Reduction of the Risk of Adverse Events and Natural Disasters”. A celebration on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bulgaria's proclamation as a space state was held in “Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall of the Academy. 50 years Institute of Solid State Physics

Prof. Hassan Chamati The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, handed the Director of the Institute of Solid State Physics, Prof. Hassan Chamati, Honorary Plaque – gold of the President of BAS. New NMR laboratory studies medicinal and aromatic plants

A Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR Spectroscopy) Laboratory, with equipment funded by the Centre of Competence project "Sustainable Utilization of Bioresources and Waste from Medicinal and Aromatic Plants for Innovative Bioactive Products", Operational Programme SESG, was opened today at the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Centre of Phytochemistry of BAS. The laboratory is part of the Centre for NMR Spectroscopy at IOCCP-BAS. Fifty-two scientists of BAS are among the top 2% best scientists in the world

Fifty-two scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are included in the top 2% of Stanford University's ranking of their impact on the development of global science in the past year 2021. Forty-five scientists from BAS appear in the prestigious ranking based on an assessment of their entire body of work, and the scientific articles of seven additional scientists received high marks in 2021. Unveiling of a bust-monument to the composer Acad. Petko Staynov

Bust-monument of the composer Acad. Petko Staynov was unveiled yesterday on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the birth of the great Bulgarian composer. The monument is located in the Alley of Artists in the Borisova Gradina park. The authors of the project are the sculptor Prof. Valentin Startchev, artist Kamen Startchev and arch. Ivan Avramov. The official event was attended by the Vice-President of BAS Corr. Mem. Evdokia Pasheva, the Minister of Culture in the Caretaker Government Velislav Minekov, representatives of the Union of Bulgarian Composers, the Union of the Blind in Bulgaria, musicians, scientists and citizens.
