The Ambassador of France visited the Institute of Microbiology of BAS

The Ambassador of the Republic of France to Bulgaria, H.E. Florence Robin, visited the Stephan Angeloff Institute of Microbiology (IMicB) together with Veneta Salyahetdinova, a tenth-grader from Blagoevgrad, winner of the “Ambassador for a Day” competition. The director of the institute, Prof. Penka Petrova, presented the laboratories of the departments "Immunology", "Virology" and Laboratory Center "Pasteur", which carry out research to counter the pandemic of COVID-19. The Department of Immunology is developing two research projects funded by the Institut Pasteur in Paris. The VacciNanoCor project is led by Prof. Andrey Tchorbanov and aims to develop a Bulgarian vaccine against SARS-Cov-2. The Scientific Secretaries of BAS were elected by the General Assembly

The General Assembly of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences elected eight scientific secretaries of the Academy. The election is in connection with the expiration of the term of office of the scientific secretaries of BAS. The discussion and vote took place at a meeting on 8 February. The exhibition “Bulgarian Archaeology 2020” presents over 350 exhibits from Prehistory to the Middle Ages

The National Archaeological Institute with a Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (NAIM at BAS) is going to present the fourteenth national archaeological exhibition "Bulgarian Archaeology 2020" from 12 February to 2 May 2021. Traditionally, the exhibition shows the most interesting finds and rich illustrative material from the field work of Bulgarian archaeologists in the previous year. It is organized on the occasion of the Archaeologist's Day, 14 February. The training of specialists in the nuclear field is a priority in the cooperation between INRNE and NEA

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is home to the largest center for research and education in the nuclear field in Bulgaria. This is the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy (INRNE), said Prof. Dimitar Tonev, Deputy Director of the INRNE during the meeting with representatives of the Nuclear Energy Agency of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (NEA). Two of the institutes of BAS start digitizing their scientific collections in a joint project

The implementation of the first stage of the project "Distributed system of scientific collections - Bulgaria (DiSSCo-BG)" started with an online meeting of the team. Тhe project will be implemented by the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research (IBER-BAS) and the National Museum of Natural History (NMNHs-BAS), united in the consortium "Upgrading distributed scientific infrastructure: Distributed system of scientific collections-Bulgaria (DiSSCo-BG)". The consortium is the Bulgarian unit in the pan-European distributed research infrastructure DiSSCo, recognized as a research infrastructure of European importance and included in the Roadmap of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) in 2018.
