Scientific Conference INFRAMAT 2022

Scientific Conference INFRAMAT 2022 under the title “Modern Scientific Equipment in support of Science, Technology and Culture” was held from 12 to 14 September in Plovdiv. INFRAMAT is a distributed infrastructure of centers for synthesis and characterization of new materials and their applications, as well as for the conservation, access and e-preservation of archaeological and ethnographic artefacts, part of the National Roadmap for Scientific Infrastructure funded by the Ministry of Education and Science. The conference showcased current research by INFRAMAT partners and other scientific organisations using the infrastructure and demonstrated some of the advanced instrumentational and methodological capabilities of the distributed infrastructure. HAPPY 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF ACADEMICIAN YACHKO IVANOV!

Academician Yachko Ivanov is one of the doyens of Bulgarian science, a highly respected and authoritative Bulgarian scientist-rheologist of international recognition. His scientific interests and achievements are in the field of rheology and microrheology of highly concentrated and structured dispersed systems; in the application and development of mathematical methods of experimental and simulation modeling; in the creation of new silicate and polymer-based composite materials, as well as in the study and optimization of their properties. He is one of the founders of the Central Laboratory of Physical and Chemical Mechanics of BAS, of which he served as Deputy Director and Director. Acad. Cooperation between scientists and business was discussed by Prof. Revalski and Minister Alexander Pulev

The partnership between Bulgarian scientists and business was discussed at a meeting in BAS by the President of the Academy Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of BAS, and the Minister of Innovation and Growth Alexander Pulev. Scientists will be given the opportunity to implement their scientific developments in cooperation with Bulgarian companies. The joint activity may receive support and funding from the programmes of the Ministry of Innovation and Growth for which about BGN 2 billion have been provided, it became clear at the meeting. Scientists from the Institute of Astronomy with NAO take part in a publication in “Nature”

An artistic interpretation of the blazar phenomenon and the jet of high-energy particles it emits The study of BL Lac blazar is by an international team with Bulgarian participation An international team involving Bulgarian astronomers has detected cycles of oscillating brightness in a jet of high-energy particles emitted by the blazar BL Lac. The results of this research were published in one of the most prestigious scientific journals in the world - "Nature", no. 7926, Volume 609, 8 September 2022. Observations from 37 different telescopes in 13 countries were used to realize this study. International Scientific Conference “Methods and Materials for Clean Technologies” MetMat2022

The International Scientific Conference MetMat2022, dedicated to methods and materials for clean technologies, took place from 7 to 10 September in the city of Sandanski. The scientific forum is organized by the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry at BAS which is one of the leading scientific organisations in Bulgaria in the field of materials chemistry. XXII International School on Condensed Matter Physics

The International School on Condensed Matter Physics, which has been organised since 1980 by the Institute of Solid State Physics, took place from 29 August to 2 September 2022 at the International House of Scientists "Frederic Joliot-Curie" near Varna. The scientific forum on "State of the Art in Functional Materials & Technologies" was dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the organizing scientific institution.
