National Round Table “Jewish labour service during World War II – rescue plan or repressive measure”

On 17 January 2020, a scientific round table was held at the Central Military Club organized by the Institute for Historical Studies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Independent Historical Society on "Jewish labor service during World War II - rescue plan or repressive measure". The round table was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Petar Nikolov, the Deputy Minister of Culture Rumen Dimitrov, the Member of Parliament Assoc. BAS to host Danube Academies Conference on climate research in October

The President of BAS - Prof. Julian Revalski, full member of the Academy, had a working meeting with Prof. Felix Unger, President of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. The meeting was held in BAS on 16 January 2020. One of the main activities of the European Academy has been holding of the Danube Academies Conference since 2011. In 2020, the Conference will be held in Sofia, and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will host the event on 15 and 16 October 2020. The topic will be related to climate research. An exhibition dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the arrival of Mkhailo Dragomanov in Bulgaria was opened on 18 December in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Communication from the Board of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences

On 03.12.2019, the Assembly of the Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts (MASA) adopted a “Charter of the Macedonian Language”. It constructs historical and linguistic arguments in defense of the official literary language of the Republic of North Macedonia as a separate, independent language with continuity and genealogy defined in Skopje as “Macedonian”. The document raises very serious scientific objections. Therefore, it has been discussed by the Board of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, after which opinions have been requested and presented by three institutes of the Academy: the Institute for Bulgarian Language, the Cyrillo-Methodian Research Centre and the Institute for Historical Studies.
