Pepka Boyadjieva is Professor Emeritus of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology

Prof. DSc Pepka Boyadjieva has been awarded the honorary title "Professor Emeritus" of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of BAS. The solemn ceremony took place yesterday in the "Acad. Ivan E. Geshov" hall of BAS-Administration. "Prof. Boyadjieva has devoted 40 years to her work at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology," the Director Prof. Emilia Chengelova said and added that "in recent years her research had been mainly in the field of sociology of education." At the celebration, Prof. Pepka Boyadjieva delivered a lecture entitled "(Im)possible Sociologies: sociology of failure". Tribute to the Apostle of Freedom

152 years since the death of Vasil Levski On the day of the 152nd anniversary of the death of Vasil Levski, representatives of the leadership and staff of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences paid tribute to the personality and work of the Apostle of Freedom. A wreath and flowers were laid at the monument of Vasil Levski in Sofia. With the Axion estin (Dostoyno est) hymn of the Holy Mother - the favorite hymn of Deacon Vasil Kunchev, a procession from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences to the monument was started. Sofia Airport from today is named after Vasil Levski

From today, Sofia Airport is named after the Apostle of Freedom Vasil Levski. President Rumen Radev issued a decree (on the basis of Article 98, item 13 of the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria by his Decree No. 22 of 17 February 2025) by which the official name became "Vasil Levski" airport - Sofia. The project proposed by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for naming Sofia Airport after the brightest historical figure for Bulgaria, Vasil Levski, was supported by the Ministry of Transport and Communications in 2024. National exhibition “Bulgarian Archaeology 2024”

The "Bulgarian Archaeology 2024" national archaeological exhibition was opened on 14 February at the National Archaeological Institute with Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Over 500 exhibits from 32 sites, varying in type and chronology, from the Prehistory to the Late Middle Ages are presented. The date 14 February was chosen because it marks the professional holiday of the archaeologist. Among the most impressive exhibits in the exhibition are prehistoric gold ornaments from the Varna necropolis, imported vessels found in the necropolis of Apollonia, exquisite gold ornaments from a burial mound near the village of Captain Petko Voyvoda, bronze figurines and votive tablets from the sanctuary of Mount Alamoura, a richly decorated glass phiale from Deultum, the head of a marble statue from Heraclea [...]

The Vice-President of BAS Prof. Shterionov participates in a celebration of the Agricultural University

The Vice-President of BAS, Prof. DSc Shtelian D. Shterionov participated today in the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Viticulture and Horticulture of the Agricultural University of Plovdiv and the ritual vine pruning on the occasion of Trifon Zarezan (Trifon the Pruner) holiday. The event was held at the university's training base in Brestnik. The rector, Assoc. The implementation of joint projects and initiatives between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan were discussed at a meeting at the Academy by the President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva and the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Bulgaria, H.E. Viktor Temirbayev. Among the topics of the discussion was research in the field of green energy. Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva briefed Ambassador Temirbayev on the activities of BAS related to the study of the potential of hydrogen technologies.
