“Zlatno Pero” (Golden Plume) award for a BAS scientist

The Union of Bulgarian Journalists (UBJ) has awarded its highest prize - the Golden Plume Medal to Prof. DSc. Garo Mardirossian from the Space Research and Technology Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS). When presenting the award on November 18, the President of UBJ, Snezhana Todorova, stressed that apart from the scientific, inventive and pedagogical activities of Prof. Mardirossian, this high award was given to him for his almost 50 years of active work in the print and electronic media, in his more than 400 appearances in which he promoted science and introduced the public to the achievements of Bulgarian science, and in particular of BAS.  

Prof. Wanda Smochowska-Petrova Prize – 2024

On 15 November 2024, the Polish Institute in Sofia hosted the award ceremony of the “Prof. Wanda Smochowska-Petrova" Prize, organized by the Institute of Literature at BAS and the Polish Institute in Sofia. Established in 2017, the award was presented for the second time in connection with Poland's Independence Day - 11 November. Prof. Dr. Wanda Smochowska-Petrova (1919-2011) was a Polish woman who emigrated to Bulgaria during World War II. She devoted more than 60 years of her creative career to the study of Bulgarian literature, the links between the two cultures in the Bulgarian National Revival period and translated into Bulgarian classic works by Polish writers. The President of BAS presents a report on his management during his two terms of office

A report on the management of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for the period from 2016 to 2024 was made today before the General Assembly of BAS by the President, Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy. The second term of office of Prof. Revalski is expiring on 7 December. “Foreign Humanities studying Bulgaria and the Bulgarians” international scientific conference

The Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Bulgarian-Hungarian Historical Commission organized an international scientific conference "Foreign Humanities Studying Bulgaria and the Bulgarians" which took place from 11 to 13 November. The initiative was carried out in the framework of the "Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Studies Abroad" National Scientific Programme funded by the Ministry of Education and Science. The moderator was Prof. Penka Peykovska. The theme of the conference attracted 40 scholars from academic and university centres in ten European countries. Foreign fellows of the Institute under the Programme also presented the results of their research in our country. Young scientists from BAS with awards for independent research

The Vice-President of BAS Corr. Mem. Evdokia Pasheva presented awards to young scientists from the Academy who were distinguished in a competition for the best publication in the field of natural-mathematical, and humanities and social sciences. Each year the awards are named after notable BAS scientists on the occasion of their anniversaries. For the year 2024 the awards are dedicated to Acad. Ivan Salabashev and Acad. Ivan Evstratiev Geshov. The jury in this year's competition awarded seven scientific works of young researchers, announced Corr. Mem. Pasheva. Meeting with the Bulgarian community, students and teachers from the “Hristo Botev” School in Strasbourg

Hristov and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lidiya Mihova, Head of School. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elka Traykova - Scientific Secretary of the "Cultural and Historical Heritage and National Identity" division introduced the attendees to the history and the place of BAS in the contemporary scientific and spiritual space. She presented the book "To the Bulgarian Roots" which collected essays, stories, poems, drawings and sculptures of the Bulgarian school students, published within the framework of the "Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Studies Abroad" National Science Programme.
