BAS presents: the “Boryana vs. Geratsite” documentary film

A screening of the documentary film about Elin Pelin and Yordan Yovkov, “Boryana” vs. “Geratsite”, took place on June 17 in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The event was part of the “BAS Presents:” initiative which began last year with the aim of having the Academy’s professional communities showcase contemporary artists through a series of exhibitions, concerts, screenings, and performances. The Vice-President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov welcomed the guests to the hall. The film’s screenwriter is Assoc. Prof. Teodora Stoilova-Doncheva, PhD, from the “Screen Arts” Department of the BAS Institute of Art Studies, and Assoc. Cooperation between Bulgarian and Italian archaeologists discussed at BAS

Cooperation in the field of archaeology between Bulgarian and Italian scholars was discussed at a meeting today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences by the President of BAS, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, the Italian Ambassador, H.E. Marcello Apicella, and Prof. Massimo Osanna from the “Federico II” University of Naples. Prof. Osanna is visiting Sofia at the invitation of the Director of the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at BAS, Assoc. Prof. Hristo Popov, PhD. During the conversation, the possibility of expanding cooperation in the exchange of doctoral students was also discussed. Technologies and Inventions of BAS at the “Science for Business” Forum

Technology solutions, services, and projects from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences aimed at industry as well as best practices for collaboration, were presented during the “Science for Business” forum and networking event which took place today at the Inter Expo Center. President Iliana Iotova opened the sixth edition of the forum. The wealth of modern societies is created where knowledge meets the entrepreneurial spirit, and scientific inventions are transformed into production and a competitive advantage, said the president, emphasizing that Bulgaria had everything necessary for this: talented scientists, creative engineers, an enterprising business community, and a tradition of scientific excellence. A documentary film about the women of the April Uprising tells the story of these unsung heroines

The new documentary film “Women in April: The Unknown Heroines of the April Uprising” was presented to the academic community in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The Academy’s initiatives to mark the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising continue, said BAS Vice President Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov in his welcome address to the guests. “For us, the entire year is a jubilee which is why we did not limit ourselves to just the months when the uprising was raging,” he noted. The production’s consultants are Prof. Peter Stoyanovich and Assoc. Prof. Aleka Strezova from the Institute for Historical Studies of BAS. Meeting with the Foreign Minister of India

At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Arun Kumar Sahu, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Bulgaria, the Vice-President of BAS, Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, took part in a working lunch with the Minister of External Affairs of India, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, during his official visit to Bulgaria on June 10, 2026. The event also brought together the Rector of Medical University - Pleven, Prof. Dobromir Dimitrov, a representative of the Department of Indian Studies at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the Indo-Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce, along with representatives of the Indian diplomatic corps. A delegation from the Chinese Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization visits BAS

The Vice President of BAS Corresponding Member Evdokia Pasheva met today at the Academy with a delegation from the Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization (CSU) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences - the leading organization responsible for the scientific program and operation of the China Space Station. During the meeting, opportunities were discussed for developing scientific cooperation between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Sciences as well as prospects for the participation of Bulgarian scientists in future scientific research and international initiatives related to the China Space Station.
