Eco Day: “Peaceful Atom – Green Planet”

On May 7, 2026, the “Peaceful Atom – Green Planet” Eco-Day was held at Scientific Complex 2 of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The event was organized by the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy, in collaboration with the Institute of Solid State Physics, the Institute of Electronics, the Central Laboratory for Solar Energy and New Energy Sources, and the “Radioactive Waste” State Enterprise. The event was dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 1986. Seventh Interdisciplinary Doctoral Forum – active academic dialogue, team creativity, and new professional networks among young scientists

The seventh interdisciplinary doctoral forum took place from April 27 to 29 in Velingrad. The event is a tradition for the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. It is organized annually by the PhD Training Center – BAS and the Career Center at it. This edition of the forum was made possible with partial support from the“Education with Science” National Program. The Institute of Oceanology – Varna is carrying out more than 50 projects

Scientists at the Institute of Oceanology (IO – BAS) are working on over 50 national and international projects funded across a wide range of fields through European programs and funds. In addition to the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program, projects are also funded by the European Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Executive Agency, INTERREG, and others. This activity is part of the institute’s extensive research work which encompasses monitoring, assessment, and conservation of the marine environment. Bulgarian children are researching the impact of the April Uprising abroad

p The winners of a student competition dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising were announced today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences by Vasil Vasilev, chairman of the All-Bulgarian “Vasil Levski” Committee. Children from Bulgarian schools abroad participated with 24 projects on the topic “The Coverage of the April Uprising in the Press of the Country Where You Live.” The initiative was carried out as part of the Ministry of Education and Science’s program “The Untold Stories of Bulgarians.” The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Science Natalia Mihalevska, the Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, and Corr. Lawyers discuss “white-collar crime” from the perspectives of Bulgaria and China

The Institute for the State and Law organized a scientific seminar titled “White-Collar Crime in a Global Context: Comparative Perspectives from China and Bulgaria” on April 24. Lawyers from both countries discussed the types and characteristics of crimes committed by highly qualified professionals within the legal systems of Bulgaria and China. In both Bulgaria and China, a wide range of criminal acts fall into this category: bribery, embezzlement, various types of fraud, money laundering, tax and financial crimes, and others. Key issues related to proving these criminal acts were discussed during the seminar. The second module of “Art Readings 2026” has ended

The “New Art” module of the international academic conference “Art Readings 2026,” held at the Institute of Art Studies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from April 23 to 25, ended. Young and established scholars from Bulgaria and abroad presented their research in the fields of cinema, theater, music, and visual arts focusing on various aspects of this year’s theme, “Chronos and Topos.” The forum’s rich program was structured into 14 thematic panels which also included scholarly interpretations related to photography, animation, social media, dance, artificial intelligence, fashion, and architecture.
