The SUDEM project presented by an international team at a press conference at BTA

  A press conference on “The SUDEM strategic European project, focusing on the digitization of forecasting, preventing serious consequences, and managing processes in disasters and accidents, has come to a successful conclusion” was held today at the press club of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA). Within the framework of the project, through the application of modern foresight tools, a strategic analytical report was prepared, interdisciplinary educational content was developed, and specific recommendations were formulated for the application and further development of the results in Europe and beyond with significant interest from relevant stakeholders. Prof. Ivan Shopov Award for an outstanding young scientist in the field of polymers for 2026

  Anna Prancheva from the Institute of Polymers at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is the winner of the Union of Bulgarian Chemists’ Award for “Outstanding Young Scientist in the Field of Polymers”, named after Prof. Ivan Shopov. for 2026. At an official ceremony held on March 4 in the conference hall of the Institute of Polymers, the award was presented by the founder of the award, Prof. Ivan Shopov, and the chairman of the Union of Chemists in Bulgaria, Prof. Venko Beshkov. New fossil fills gap in human evolution: Oldest human ancestor appears to be from the Balkans

A new fossil femur, or thigh bone from Bulgaria could re-write the story of human origins. Prof. Kamen Kozarev is the director of the Institute of Astronomy with NAO – BAS

Prof. Kamen Kozarev is the newly elected director of the Institute of Astronomy with the National Astronomical Observatory at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. His scientific work focuses on solar and heliospheric physics, and especially on solar flares, coronal shock waves, the acceleration and transport of high-energy particles, and the application of modern data processing methods and artificial intelligence in radio astronomy and space weather. His professional career includes many years of research experience in the United States. Experts of BAS: The state should commit to developing the extraction and processing of critical and strategic raw materials

Four directors of institutes at BAS participated in a press conference to present the first stage of implementation of the “Critical and Strategic Raw Materials for Green Transition and Sustainable Development” National Scientific Program: Prof. Irena Zareva from the Economic Research Institute, Prof. Svetoslav Georgiev, PhD, from the Geological Institute, Prof. Emilia Chengelova, DSc, from the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, and Prof. Antoaneta Hristova, PhD, from the Institute for Population and Human Studies. Image and Text Award

On February 26, 2026, the Image and Text Award was presented for the first time. established by the Bulgarian-European Cultural Dialogues Centrе оoundation in recognition of the significant contribution of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ruzha Marinska to Bulgarian art history and the study of Bulgarian art in the context of European cultural tradition. The award is given for original scientific works in the field of art studies published between January 1 and December 31, 2025, and aims to encourage and support the development of art studies in Bulgaria.
