“Early Neolithic settlement Slatina-Sofia” mural

Голямоформатният стенопис „Раннонеолитно селище Слатина-София (6100 – 5500 г. пр. Хр.)  беше представен днес пред публика. Нарисуван е от художниците Иван Монев и Мария Матовска върху северната фасада на сградата на 93-то средно училище „Александър Теодоров-Балан“ на столичната улица „Гео Милев“ №32. The large-format mural "Early Neolithic settlement Slatina-Sofia (6100 - 5500 BC)” has been presented to the public today. It was painted by the artists Ivan Monev and Maria Matovska on the northern facade of the building of the 93rd secondary school "Alexander Theodorov-Balan" on the capital's Geo Milev Street № 32. It was executed as part of the "Early Neolithic Settlement Slatina-Sofia: at the Dawn of European Civilization"  project of the National Archaeological Institute with Museum of BAS funded by the Culture Program [...]

Project of BAS under the Erasmus+ programme with a Quality Label

On 04.12.2024, the Human Resource Development Centre held the Valorization Conference 2024 on “Green Technology and Sustainable Development in the Education and Youth Sector”. The project of BAS No. 2021-1-BG01-KA131-HED-000009115 under the Erasmus+ programme was highly appreciated and awarded with a Quality Label. The award was presented by Ms Natalia Miteva, Deputy Minister of Education and Science, to Corr. Memb. Evdokia Pasheva, Vice-President of BAS and Institutional Coordinator of the Programme. The event was opened by Prof. Galin Tsokov, Minister of Education and Science, who stressed the importance and benefits of the Erasmus+ Programme and congratulated the attendees. Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva is the new President of BAS

For the first time in the 155-year history of the Academy, a woman is elected President Corresponding member Evelina Slavcheva has been elected President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for the period 2024-2028 at a meeting of the General Assembly of BAS which was held today at the Academy. In a statement to the General Assembly, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva thanked her colleagues for their support and stressed that the hard work was just beginning. BAS economists: BGN 1.63 billion per year is the total financial effect of Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen

Five specific benefits with a total financial effect of BGN 1.63 billion per year will receive Bulgaria from joining the Schengen area by land. This is according to the assessment of the scientists from the Economic Research Institute at BAS in a special study conducted in early 2024 on the initiative of the Ministry of Economy and Industry on the economic impact of the forthcoming decision for Bulgarian citizens to travel freely between the individual member states without being subject to border controls. The biggest benefit is for heavy freight transport as well as for producers and exporters of goods whose direct costs are estimated at BGN 845 million. A new study used DNA-metabarcoding to elucidate the dietary spectrum of the grey plover (Pluvialis squatarola) on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast

Grey plover (Pluvialis squatarola) A team of young scientists and postdoctoral fellows at the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Studies, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, has published results of the first study in Bulgaria using DNA metabarcoding for examination of the dietary spectrum of a species of shore birds at a resting stopover place during migration along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The grey plover (Pluvialis squatarola) breeds in the Arctic and winters on the coasts of Africa, reaching as far as the Republic of South Africa. The newly elected academicians and -corresponding members of BAS receive diplomas

  The diplomas of the new members of the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members of BAS (AACM) were awarded at an official ceremony held in the "Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall. Eleven new academicians and 21 new corresponding members had been elected by the Assembly of Academicians at the elections held in September. In front of the AACM, Prof. Revalski, Member of BAS, made a report on the management of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for the period from 2016 to 2024. During his two terms of office, three elections were held and 28 new academicians and 51 new corresponding members were elected, and on his initiative, the election of corresponding members up to the age of 50 was introduced.
