Academician Julian Revalski is the new President of BAS
Academician Julian Revalski was elected as President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for the next four years. 94 members of the General Assembly attended the election, which was held today - 1 December 2016 in the Great Hall of BAS, and 57 of them voted "FOR". The newly-elected President of BAS Acad. Julian Revalski said that the main focus of his program is to maintain and further the sustainable development of the scientific potential of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The four-year Management Program for BAS (2016-2020) by Acad. Revalski is 26 pages long and is available on the website of the Academy.
Acad. Julian Revalski has been the Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from 2013 to date, and in 2011-2012 he was Deputy Director of the Institute in the field of applied research activities.
His areas of scientific interest are related to operations research - optimization, variance analysis, game theory; functional analysis - geometry of Banach spaces and monotonous operators, and in the field of general topology - topological methods in optimization and ambiguous images. He has written 55 scientific papers and has been cited more than 500 times, out of which 480 times - by foreign authors.
The newly-elected President of BAS Acad. Revalski is the head of five research projects with the National Fund for Research and coordinator of seven international projects. He has lectured at Sofia University "St. Kl. Ohridski "- Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics and has been a visiting researcher and visiting professor in Italy, Canada, Greece, Germany and France.
The General Assembly of BAS held the election with two candidates for the post of President of the Academy - the votes in support of Corr. Member Nikolay Miloshev were 27.
