Several generations of Bulgarian contestants in Natural Sciences Olympiads, most of whom are winners of gold medals and prestigious awards from international competitions, are taking part in the second Olympic National Conference on Natural Sciences and Innovation, which started today, 20 December 2016, in the Great Hall of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The President of BAS Acad. Julian Revalski and the President of the Union of Mathematicians Acad. Peter Kenderov opened the two-day event, which is held under the patronage of President Rosen Plevneliev.

The President of BAS Acad. Julian Revalski participated in the first roundtable "Approaches and ways to attract the Bulgarian scientific diaspora to work in a network", which is part of the campaign of the Ministry of Education and Science "Bulgarian Faces in World Science". The event was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Science Meglena Kuneva in "Sofia Tech Park" today, 19 December 2016.
The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences – Host of a Lecture by Japanese Professor Yuichiro Anzai
A public lecture by Prof. Yuichiro Anzai, President of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, was held in the Great Hall of BAS today, 8 December 2016. "Shaping the Future Society through the Development of Science, Technology and Human Resources" was the topic of the lecture. The President of BAS Acad. Julian Revalski and the Japanese Ambassador in Bulgaria H.E. Shinichi Yamanaka welcomed the guests at the Academy.
European academy networks launch Horizon 2020 - funded SAPEA project: Science Advice for Policy by European Academies
On 13 December 2016, Presidents of the five European academy networks that make up the SAPEA project consortium joined the Director - General for Research and Innovation, Dr Robert -Jan Smits, for the official launch ofSAPEA in Brussels. More than 100 academies across Europe including BAS which is a member of three European academy networks will contribute to the European Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM). SAM provides independent, transdisciplinary and evidence-based scientific advice to the European Commission.
The new issue of the German "Yearbook of European Ethnology" is dedicated to Bulgaria
On 13 December at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum - BAS the presentation of the published in 2016 Volume 11 of the Jahrbuch fuer Europeische Ethnologie (Yearbook of European Ethnology) took place. The book is dedicated to Bulgaria and most authors are from IEFSEM - BAS.
